Kraków District covers 1,230 sq. km. It is located in the immediate proximity of Kraków, and encompasses 17 communities that used to belong to Kraków Voivodeship before an administrative reform. The district includes 5 municipal-rural communities (Krzeszowice, Skała, Skawina, Słomniki and Świątniki Górne) and 12 rural communities (Czernichów, Igołomia-Wawrzeńczyce, Iwanowice, Jerzmanowice-Przeginia, Kocmyrzów–Luborzyca, Liszki, Michałowice, Mogilany, Sułoszowa, Wielka Wieś, Zabierzów and Zielonki). Within its limits, there are 322 towns and villages. Kraków District has a population of about 241,000 people, i.e. 7.3% of all residents of Małopolskie Voivodeship – which places the district in second position after Kraków. The biggest town in the district is Skawina with a population of 24,374 people, i.e. 10.3% of all residents of the district. The biggest communities as regards population are: Skawina – 41,557 residents (17.5%), Krzeszowice – 31,420 (13.2%) and Zabierzów – 21,372 residents (9%). The smallest communities are Sułoszowa (5,948) and Michałowice (7,078). The population of the remaining communities ranges from 7,500 to 15,000.
